Kuro Kirishima sweet potato shochu was the first shochu made by the founder of Kirishima brewery, Kichisuke Enatsu, back in 1916. The name "Kuro", meaning black, is used because Kuro Kirishima shochu is made using a black rice-koji. The combination of the black rice-koji and sweet potatoes give this shochu a gentle aroma with a rich and sweet flavour. Best enjoyed on the rocks.
A Honkakushochu distilled from Kogane-Sengan sweet potatoes from southern Kyushu and Kirishima Rekka-sui, a crisp, clear subterranean water. This shochu is notable for its lush sweetness and crisp palate, which come from the use of black koji.
With a soft, faintly yammy nose, the first thing that strikes you about the flavor is that it’s much richer than the barley or rice shochus.
